Culebra ferry tickets

The Puerto Rico Ferry runs from Ceiba to Culebra multiple times a day. Sailing takes 45–55 minutes on the fast ferry. Adults $2.25 one-way; kids 4–12 and seniors 60–74 $1; babies 0–3 and seniors 75+ ride free. Plus a small environmental fee on Culebra. Full fare table on the official site.

Only about 20% of each sailing's seats are sold online. The other 80% are held for in-person purchase at the Ceiba kiosk, and Culebra residents get priority. Weekends and holidays sell out.

• Book at puertoricoferry.com.
• Online seats release roughly 30 days ahead in rolling batches. Set an alarm for the release window if your target sailing is a weekend or holiday.
• Book both legs at once so you're not stuck buying the return separately.
• Confirmation is a QR-coded email — save it to your phone and walk up to the terminal to have it scanned at boarding.

Buy at the Ceiba kiosk

• The other 80% of seats. This is how most locals buy.
• Residents have priority. Visitor tickets go to whoever's left after resident allocation.
• If the kiosk sells out, wait for the next sailing.

If the ferry is sold out

Fly

• Cape Air — San Juan (SJU) direct to Culebra (CPX) on twin-engine Cessnas. About 30 minutes gate-to-gate. Best if you're already at SJU.
• Air Flamenco — Isla Grande (SIG in San Juan) or Ceiba (RVR) to Culebra. About 15 minutes from Ceiba.
• Vieques Air Link — same routes as Air Flamenco.

Small planes (5–9 seats), so flights can also sell out. Availability is usually better than the ferry, though.

Have a service secure tickets for you

Local services with kiosk access can often still get you a seat on sold-out sailings. Useful if you're planning from abroad or would rather pay someone to work the Ceiba terminal for you.

• Island Breeze Taxi — Ceiba-based taxi company that also buys tickets at the terminal on your behalf. $50 per 5 tickets. Convenient if you also need the San Juan → Ceiba ride.
• Culebra Ferry Ticket Agent — dedicated agent. Select date, time, quantity; they buy the tickets and email you the code. Plan ahead — 5–6 business day turnaround.
• BoletoSeguroPR — local Puerto Rico team focused on express confirmation. Their bundle covers the ferry ticket, Culebra environmental fee, and a service charge.

Private water taxi

For groups. Not cheap on its own, but split across a group it's competitive with individual flights. Search for licensed operators or ask at your hotel.

Good to know

• The terminal is in Ceiba, not Fajardo. Moved October 2018 to the old Roosevelt Roads naval base. Paid parking on-site.
• Cargo fees: one small carry-on is free; per-item rates apply — $2 for a cooler, $1 for a beach chair or umbrella, $6 for a surfboard. Coolers and large items are stored outside the seating area.
• Weather delays happen. In choppy Caribbean conditions, sailings can be pushed or cancelled — build in buffer if you're catching a same-day flight home.
• Save your confirmation email offline before you leave — service can be spotty on the drive from San Juan.

How far in advance can I buy Culebra ferry tickets?

Online seats release in a rolling 30-day window. Only about 20% of each sailing's seats are sold online; the rest are in-person at the Ceiba kiosk.

Is the Culebra ferry from Fajardo or Ceiba?

Ceiba, since October 2018. The terminal moved from Fajardo to the old Roosevelt Roads naval base. Anyone still driving to Fajardo will end up an hour from the ferry.

What if the Culebra ferry is sold out?

Fly — Cape Air from San Juan, Air Flamenco or Vieques Air Link from Isla Grande or Ceiba. Local services can also work the kiosk on your behalf for a fee. Private water taxi is an option for groups.

Can I take a rental car on the Culebra ferry?

No. Rental cars are not allowed on the passenger ferry. Plan on renting transportation once you arrive on the island.
